Ashes to Ashes Tour
ASHES TO ASHES TOUR
The Port City’s Oldest Graveyard
This tour tells the stories of our early American citizens, including native French, English, Spanish, and Native Americans who grew Mobile from a Colonial outpost to a thriving port city. Our tour begins at Oyster City Brewing, where guests can purchase one of many local and regional brews on tap. After an informative 2-block walk to the Church Street Graveyard, we will take a guided tour of the unusual monuments, historic people, and unusual characters buried there. Our guide will share stories about the gold prospector whose body was sent home in a barrel of rum, Yellow Fever victims, a mass grave, and a haunted tree! We’ll also see the Mardi Gras section where Old Joe Cain, the patron saint of Mobile Mardi Gras is buried.
